Obsession’s Oscars Campaign: Which Categories Can It Actually Win?

[00:00:00] Okay, Obsession is going to the Oscars. That is the breaking news this week. Let's get into this.

[00:00:18] So it has been confirmed by Variety, a magazine I don't really trust, but we can take them out their word on this, that apparently Obsession is heading for an Oscar campaign. Now the Oscar campaigns are gonna be starting, I would say about November, once the award season, for those who care about movie awards, begin. Usually they start with the Golden Globes, there's other smaller awards going on, but I really don't care for any of those except for the Oscars.

[00:00:48] Not every movie that wins an Oscar is the best movie, but in this case, for some, if Obsession is up there in the running, it might be. There was a long list that was published by Variety magazine. Apparently Focus Features was the one to put out the list. And it was also put out by Baker, whom directed the film, Obsession. And he did confirm that that is the list they are going with.

[00:01:15] They'll be doing 15 different submissions in about, I would say, 11 categories. Today we're gonna go through every single category Obsession is being submitted for, but I'm not just going to tell you whether I think Obsession deserves the nomination or the possible award.

[00:01:33] But I'm also going to pin it against some of the movies that are coming out this fall or films that already came out, like The Odyssey, Project Hail Mary, The Invite, amongst lots of others. Now, most of these categories, they tend to cap at five nominees.

[00:01:51] Obviously Obsession, and we'll get to that later on, has better chances of getting into Best Picture, given that they usually nominate between nine and ten titles for that award. But we're going to begin with makeup and hairstyling. Now, I know some of these categories sound a little bit out there, and one of them specifically sounds very out there.

[00:02:14] But when it comes to makeup and hairstyling, I honestly haven't seen many films this year that have really been breakout when it comes to makeup and hairstyling. Obviously, besides The Odyssey, and I don't want to make this an Odyssey sweep. I like The Odyssey. I think it has its own problems.

[00:02:38] But I don't want to give this an Odyssey sweep, so I'm just going to keep it with where Obsession has a chance and what could be the biggest rival in said category. Now, makeup and hairstyling, let's focus on the makeup part. Hairstyling, it's a 2020 haircut. It's fine. You know, it's not groundbreaking.

[00:02:59] But when it comes to the makeup, I think this is where Obsession will probably sneak into this category because it is probably one of the most talked about makeups of the year. Obviously, when you're pinning it against The Odyssey, that is going to be a tough one for Obsession. Obviously, the makeup is what really stood out in the movie for many people, mostly because it was a practical makeup effect.

[00:03:24] People thought she had prosthetics on her face, and that is still something that, you know, months later people are still talking about. Now, we're going to move on to sound. In sound, other than Undertone, I think Obsession in horror movies obviously has some of the best sound this year. I still think that Undertone still should have a nomination for sound.

[00:03:48] But in this category, even though the sound is there, the sound is a little unnerving at times. It gives the movie that vibe. I still think the sound is going to be a tough sale also. Why? You have Dune coming out. Dune 3. You have Doomsday. You have already, again, The Odyssey. You have Project Hail Mary.

[00:04:10] You have these big blockbuster movies that have such an outstanding sound, even Brand New Day. I don't think this is going to be a shoe-in for Obsession. Maybe I'll change my mind. I don't think this is going to be a category we'll see them in. Will I be happy to see them in sound? Sure.

[00:04:34] Because, again, towards the end of the movie, the sound does become more alive and the movie revolves more around it. And it does give it, again, it does give it that atmosphere. But if I had to choose between Obsession and Undertone to go into sound and sound mixing, I would definitely choose Undertone. If I had to choose a horror movie this year to be nominated in the sound category.

[00:05:01] Original score, this does have a great chance to be an original score. I think the score in the film is fantastic. Obviously, in score, you have Ludwig Goranson, which, by the way, I had to look up his full name on Letterboxd. And I love that in Letterboxd, he's all the way at the bottom. Because, of course, you have to have all the fucking producers first. But you have Ludwig. He already has three Academy Awards. I might be mistaken. This might be his fourth. He has Black Panther. He has Oppenheimer.

[00:05:30] He has another one for last year, which I totally forgot. And he does, yeah, Sinners. And he does have a nomination, obviously, this year for The Odyssey. Now, what he did with The Odyssey, it was a challenge. And he did that. He went there. So I don't know if this is going to be a strong category for Obsession as well. Although I like the score, I don't think this is going to be a win for Obsession.

[00:06:00] Now, one of the supercategories I saw that they are going to submit for is costume design. We're just going to go ahead and skip that one. Production design. We have a house. We have a record store. And we don't have production design that really stands out. If that's the case, then we really have to nominate a lot of movies for production design this year. Because a lot of them took place in a house.

[00:06:30] The Invite took place in a house. Over Your Dead Body. Over My Dead Body. Or Over Your Dead Body. Whichever title it is. Takes place in a house. Undertone takes place in a house. So when it comes to production design, I don't think this is going to be another category that Obsession has a chance of getting into. But again, if the money's there and they can push that motherfucker, you know they're going to take the bait. And they're probably going to get nominated.

[00:06:59] Production design, to me, has to go to Project Hail Mary. That is a production design. Obviously, The Odyssey is going to be nominated in this. What can we expect? Should The Odyssey win for this? No. But again, I do have a big fear that this is going to be a sweep of The Odyssey. Probably taking around 11 Oscars. Hopefully not.

[00:07:24] But we do have Project Hail Mary, who for me is the frontrunner when it comes to production design. Obviously, we haven't seen Dune yet. Dune 3. So Dune 3 is also one that is going to be nominated, obviously, in this category. I feel like between Dune and The Odyssey, those are going to be the biggest contenders in each category. Doomsday, I'm expecting it to at least be nominated as well when it comes to the sound.

[00:07:49] So it's going to be between Dune and The Odyssey and Doomsday when it comes to sound design. So that's what I'm saying. A lot of these categories, Obsession might get into, but the chances of winning are very, very low. Now, when it comes to cinematography, however, this is where I think Obsession might shine. Because if there's two things you walk away from, Obsession is one, Andy Neverett. But the other one is the cinematography.

[00:08:18] I complain a lot about the darkness, but it's because I can't see her. It's not because it's not well done. There's two big differences there. I want to see more of her because every time I see her, I enjoy her performance. But I also understand that keeping her in the dark is part of the unsettledness. Is that a fucking word? It's unsettledness? It's unsettling.

[00:08:44] Keeping her in the dark is probably the most unsettling the movie can do. Now, not every part that she's hiding in the dark bothers me. It's mostly the ones where I want to see her features. For example, again, the one at the porch where she's coming to him to tell him that he takes advantage of her. That is when I would want to see her face because I want to see the expression and the changes in her face when he becomes defensive. But that's just my, that's just, that's just me.

[00:09:14] But in cinematography, I feel like this is where this film might shine at the Oscars. This, for me, is probably the one category. If I had to choose three, this is probably one category that I say this movie should be nominated. I don't think I've lost a cinematography prediction in a while. When it comes to this one, again, I have to go back to Project Hail Mary. It does have a great cinematography.

[00:09:43] Probably those two have to be the ones that could battle against each other. If we take out The Odyssey, if we take out Doomsday. Sorry, not Doomsday. I'm like, oh, Jesus Christ. I'm like, oh my God, those two fucking movies need to come out on the same fucking day. Dune. When you take out Dune 3, then I say Project Hail Mary and Obsession have a higher chance to be nominated. Now, I do have to say Mother Mary needs to be in that category.

[00:10:11] There's a few categories here that Mother Mary should be nominated in. I know a lot of people overlook that film. And maybe it's not the best film of the year, but it does have a lot of elements that are Oscar bait. And I feel like that movie from A24 was something that they want to create Oscar bait. And they still can. Obviously, they have the invite, which they're probably going to push, you know, like a motherfucker.

[00:10:37] But I think Project Hail Mother Mary, I think Mother Mary should also be nominated in that category. Obviously, for some, that's not horror. It does have horror elements. So stop complaining about it. It's some horror representation. I would say Mother Mary has that chance as well. But again, for me, if I had to choose two contenders would have to be Obsession and Project Hail Mary. Also, what is the what the fuck is wrong with this year? Would a lot of movies sound in the same way?

[00:11:06] I think the pumpkin spice latte is getting to me and I'm already jittery and all these names are totally confusing me. But I had to do this episode because when the news came out, I almost spit my morning coffee. Right now, we're going to move on to casting. I don't I don't know how I feel about the casting category yet. Obviously, I'm glad casting is getting plotted for what they what they do.

[00:11:35] But at the same time, it's like it's a category that I feel should just be called ensemble and just have the whole cast go up there with the casting director. Because at the end of the day, casting is about the group of people you put together. Obviously, this award just goes to the one person who did that, which is great. In this case, it's Skylar Cern. I think the casting in the movie is great, but then you're going to have a competing against other movies that are also well casted.

[00:12:05] You have a big cast like The Odyssey. I don't think The Odyssey deserves to be in this category. The casting is all over the place. Some some characters work for me. Others don't. But you also have a good casting in Brand New Day. You have a good casting so far. Again, we're not adding Dune and Doomsday here. You have Brand New Day. You have The Invite. You have Mother Mary.

[00:12:33] You have Project Hail Mary. And you also have the drama. Let's not forget the drama. The drama is still there. Also, now you have the debut coming out. So these are going to be very strong categories for casting. I think, and this is my opinion here, and I might, you know, have cake on my face at the end of the night on March 14th, which, by the way, is when the Oscars are not paid by the Oscars, by the way.

[00:13:02] The Academy Awards have not, have not approved of this episode. But I might have cake on my face. I do love cake. But the thing is that this category could actually go to Obsession for the simple fact that Indie is the face of this film. And I'm pretty sure the Academy, one, they want people to get, to come in view. They want to get eyes.

[00:13:30] They haven't had numbers in years. Even though with Sinners and Weapons all running in the same year, I don't think the horror community raised those numbers high enough for the Academy to take a chance on giving horror its flowers. But this year might be different.

[00:13:49] This year, I think that they will try to push Obsession and make Obsession part of the ceremony because of Indie. So, and as a matter of fact, I think they're running the entire campaign as her being the face of the campaign, which is a smart move, to be honest. I feel like casting is going to be, it's going to be a strong one for Obsession.

[00:14:19] This is one of the ones that I said, yeah, this one might be going to them. I feel like if A24 had pushed the drama a little bit more, maybe the drama might be a competition. Let's be honest, A24 could wrap up these Oscars this year. But A24 sits down on their hands and they don't do shit.

[00:14:45] They put out so many good movies this year and they don't promote shit. They had the drama, they had Mother Mary, they had The Invite. They have like two, three more movies coming out this year that are strong Oscar contenders. I think Primetime, which might be the best actor nominee for Robert Pattinson. And they're still not pushing for all the other, you could have Robert Pattinson in two categories.

[00:15:14] Possibly twice in two different categories. And these motherfuckers would not get off their asses and promote their films. Yeah, sure. They like to sell us those little digipacks and I buy them like a dumbass, but they don't promote their shit. And this is what pisses me off right now about A24. I think A24 has had the strongest year this year, 2026. Has been the strongest year for A24. And they have not gotten up to promote shit.

[00:15:44] I like the drama. The drama has a great fucking screenplay. Why are you not promoting that? Why am I not seeing for your consideration already? Why am I not seeing your consideration for a screenplay for Mother Mary? Yeah, some people didn't like it. Well, guess what? Fuck you. You didn't like the movie. Great. But it does have a great screenplay. I don't think Obsession has a good screenplay. I'm going to be honest.

[00:16:10] And I know I'm going from one category to a total separate one, but we're getting to that one. I don't think Obsession has a strong screenplay. And I might, I feel, I haven't yet been able to see the invite word of mouth from somebody that I really trust. And usually we are very good when it comes to predictions. He cheats a little. I don't. But I never get screenplay wrong.

[00:16:38] And right now the one that I really want to sit down and watch and pay close attention to is the invite. Because apparently that is the best screenplay of the year. Now, I didn't hate necessarily the screenplay for Obsession. I just didn't like it. I just felt like it was an okay, people are talking kind of screenplay. For some people that say, oh, horror doesn't need to have a good story. Well, Obsession does.

[00:17:07] Obsession has a great story. It has a great storyline. Obviously, like the screenplay itself is not the best, but it doesn't mean the movie's not good. I mean, Titanic, people love it. It has a shitty screenplay, but it won a best picture. So it doesn't necessarily equate you having a great screenplay with best picture. As Good As It Gets has the best screenplay of that year. But yet Titanic won. One does not mean you're going to win best picture.

[00:17:34] But again, Obsession does have an okay screenplay, even though it has a great story. It's an okay. You go out and you remember the lines. You know, that's about it. Like, you have a few good lines. But I don't think it's going to be a strong category for Obsession. Now, they might be nominated because, yes, they're going to be nominated. The screenplay for The Odyssey sucks ass.

[00:18:03] Like, that is a horrible screenplay. But I'm pretty sure they're going to be nominated. They're not going to win, but they're going to be nominated. Actually, that's going to be supported adapted screenplay anyway, so fuck off. But it's probably one of the worst adapted screenplays. Yeah. So they'll probably still be nominated in that category. Obsession, obviously, is an original screenplay. So they're going to be in their own category. Project Hail Mary, if it gets nominated, that's best adapted. Dune, same thing, best adapted.

[00:18:30] The only competition that Obsession has in screenplay is going to be possibly the drama. Definitely the invite. Possibly the debut. Primetime, maybe. And obviously, which I'm hoping Mother Mary makes it into that category. Now, another category that had me laughing my ass off when I read this, because they're really going for all the marbles, is Best Supporting Actor.

[00:19:00] Now, Best Supporting Actor, there's two people who are being nominated for this. One is Cooper, Tomlinson. I mean, if you're going to nominate anybody for Best Supporting Actor in the film, sure. Why not Cooper? I'm going to be honest. He was okay. I think the entire cast, other than Indy and Johnson, not Johnson, is it Johnson? Michael Johnson? I think they were probably, obviously, the standouts. They are the lead.

[00:19:30] But you trying to jam a few other nominations down the Academy's throat, I don't think it's going to work. Obviously, at this point, Best Supporting Actor, I have it for John Leguizamo for The Odyssey. And I don't know. I think Paul Giamatti is going to be nominated in that category for the debut. There's a chance that, what's his name? Edward Norton might be nominated for the invite.

[00:20:00] Penelope Cruz is just going to be in her own category, Best Supporting. But I do have a feeling, because the Academy loves Edward so much, there's a chance that Edward takes it. But on the other hand, you have John Leguizamo, who has done amazing work throughout the years. And he has not been given his flowers yet.

[00:20:24] So I do think, Paul Giamatti already has his, but I do think that the Best Supporting Actor is going to be going to John Leguizamo. Now, if you put Cooper Thomas in there, it's just going to look like a joke. I'm not going to lie. But if you think that having Cooper Thomas in there as a joke is a bad thing, wait till I tell you that they're also thinking about putting Andy Richard. Was it Richter?

[00:20:49] They're putting Andy Richter also as nominee for Best Supporting Actor. Now, I'm just going to skip that one as well, because my thoughts are like, who was he? Now, you also have Supporting Actress, which in this case, they're pushing Megan Lawless for Best Supporting Actress. I don't think she has a shot. You have Anne Hathaway. You have Penelope Cruz for the invite.

[00:21:15] You also have Alana Haim for the drama. I think Alana, I might be saying her name wrong, but I think Alana should win that category hands down. She has given the most, I would say, terrifying performance of the year. Like, I still can't stop thinking about her fucking performance in the drama. And she needs to walk away with that award. Like, I haven't seen the invite again.

[00:21:44] Maybe Penelope Cruz would blow me away. She always does. I love Penelope Cruz. But I already know what Penelope can do. I know she can always bring it. I don't think the Academy will give Anne Hathaway a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for The Odyssey. I'm pretty sure she's going to be going for Best Actress in that category.

[00:22:08] But I think another one that could probably walk away with Best Supporting Actress is Michaela Cole for Mother Mary. Like, again, a lot of people are falling asleep with Mother Mary. Mother Mary could be a strong contender in these Oscars. But they're falling asleep with Michaela Cole, who gave a fucking amazing performance in Mother Mary.

[00:22:35] So again, you have Alana Heim and you have Michaela Cole. Those two are, for me, the strongest performances in Best Supporting Actress that I've seen so far this year. So I don't want to put anybody down when it comes to acting. This was a great cast. This was a great performance by each actor in that cast. But Megan was not a standout. There's nothing to that.

[00:23:05] There's two things that a Best Supporting Actress does. You can be there for three minutes and win an award. And the fact that whatever you did set the plot in motion. I don't want to be here, you know, educating people with what a supporting actress or supporting actors does. But a Best Supporting Actor in general, or a Best Supporting Character in general, does put the story into motion.

[00:23:31] They do things that affect the rest of the story. And in this case, Alana is the one to watch. If we're going by what it means to be a Best Supporting Actor, Judi Dench in Chase Beard Love is the Best Supporting Actor in a film. You have somebody setting something in motion that it affects, it changes the best actor. The main character is affected by those decisions. Robin Williams in Goodwill Humping. You have that.

[00:24:00] You have that set into motion. And I don't think she did anything to affect the other two characters. She made Nikki jealous, therefore bam, bam. No, that was already coming. That wasn't something that was set into motion. Oh, well, now Bear is responsible for X, Y, and Z. Well, he was always responsible for something.

[00:24:24] If anything, and if we're looking at it from that point of view that a Best Supporting Actor is who sets things in motion, then why the fuck is Focus Featured Films submitting Michael Johnson as Best Actor? He should be submitted as Best Supporting Actor. And guess what? He has a strong chance there.

[00:24:47] You don't have to be in the movie the entire time, or you can be in the movie the entire time and still be a Best Supporting Actor. I think, in my personal opinion, redundancy, is that Michael should be submitted for Best Supporting Actor. Forget about Megan. Forget about Colin. Forget about Andy. Those are the two people, Michael and Indy, that you should be focusing on.

[00:25:15] Don't waste your money, because again, these are limited resources that you're putting into different campaigns, and you're spreading yourself a little too thin. Film editing. Barker wrote, edited, directed. He did everything for this film, just like Sean Baker does. Which again, you gotta give him kudos for that. I don't think the film editing in this film was the best. I don't think it stood out for me.

[00:25:43] The fact that you let some scenes run a little long to make it creepy and eerie was a great decision. But was it a great film editing? It wasn't Bohemian Rhapsody, I give you that. Because I had an anxiety attack watching Bohemian Rhapsody. Did I like it? Yes, it made sense. The editing with the movie totally made sense. And the funny thing is that the editing in that movie, I don't want to defend it. Because I know a lot of people hate it. So I'm going to defend it.

[00:26:13] The editing with Bohemian Rhapsody makes total sense. With the song, Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't think people thought about that. This pumpkin spice latte has really got me thinking. And it really made the movie what it was. Bohemian Rhapsody is probably one of the best biopics that I've seen. I haven't seen Michael yet. Which again, don't fall asleep on Michael.

[00:26:38] But I do feel that the editing in this film was just okay. Which was another editing in any other film. Is there any other films that have strong editing this year? I don't know. I really haven't seen any standouts editing wise. I did like the editing in Mother Mary. I did like the editing in Project Hail Mary. I gotta say I'm a little neutral with the editing in The Odyssey. I wasn't a big fan of it. But I do think Brand New Day has a good editing as well.

[00:27:07] So that might be... I don't know. If Obsession gets into this category, we'll see how that plays out. Usually editing, I get it wrong. Fuck if I know. I'd be surprised if it gets to that one. Now, let's get to the big awards. I already said that Michael Johnston... Michael Johnston, not Michael Johnson. I already said that Michael should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I know they're pushing him for Best Actor.

[00:27:36] He has no shot. I'm sorry. Michael has no shot. I'm just going to take a quick sip of my pumpkin spice latte here. Even though I can edit this out. Just so you know I'm in the mood for Halloween. But I think that Michael has a better shot in Best Supporting Actor than he does in Best Actor. Obviously against John Leguizamo and Edward and Paul, he has no shot. But because he's new...

[00:28:05] Again, let's just say... Let's just say in a world that Focus features... Has a brain... And decides to submit him for Best Supporting Actor... The Academy has two options. Either they give Michael the award... Just because he's new. He's a fresh face. He's bringing in new eyes to the Academy. He's a queer person. But... Then you have, again, like I said, John Leguizamo.

[00:28:34] He has been around the block many years. He has done a lot of performances. You know, I didn't like Romeo and Juliet, but... He brought it in Romeo and Juliet. And for years they've overlooked his performances. So... You're going to have them... You know... And he's a big advocate too. He's always out there talking about... You know... Rights. And he's a poster child for advocacy. And I think that they might look at that too.

[00:29:04] Also, he's a Latino. So... I'm not saying the Academy is... Actually, I think that's probably why Michael would win. Because the Academy is not good giving awards to Latinos. I know it's not about race. It's just a fact. So I think it's going to be an uphill climb for... For John Leguizamo if he's up against Edward and Poggio Amati. But I'm not discontinuing the fact that he deserves it. But again, I think Michael does have a better chance. For a nomination. Not for a win.

[00:29:34] For a nomination. In Best Supporting Actor. And Best Actor, again... I think this is the year that... A24 can strap their boots and be like... We want Robert Patterson nominated twice in every category. And I think he has a shot with the drama. But I also think he has a bigger shot with Primetime. Matt Damon in The Odyssey. He's going to be nominated. I don't like him in The Odyssey. But, you know... Sure.

[00:30:04] Why not? Like... He's there. He's going to be there. You know he's going to be nominated. So that's not even an argument. I think Ryan Gosling should also be nominated for Project Hail Mary. He did give a great performance in that movie. I feel like we kind of do fall asleep on Ryan Gosling. And every time he comes out... He does give a great performance. In everything he does. I think lately he has become a better actor. You know... When it comes to the roles that he's chosen...

[00:30:33] I think he has been standing out a little bit more. Not just the rom-com. Even though I don't think he really did that many rom-com. I'd say Crazy is Super Love. And I love that movie. So I really can't complain. But I think Ryan Gosling definitely should be nominated this year for Best Actor. Now, getting into the category that I think they have a 99% chance of getting in is Best Actress. Best Actress, obviously.

[00:31:02] You're going to be running against Julianne Moore for the debut. You're going to be running against possibly... Possibly... Cendaya for the drama. Most definitely Anne Hathaway for The Odyssey. You also have... Probably, I would say, the most standout actress of these last two years. Renate Rensve. Yeah, I did go to Letterboxd for that. I do know her first name.

[00:31:31] I just don't know her last. So I'm just going to call her Renata. So you do have her running for Fajorn. Now, Fajorn is a sleeper hit. It did win Cain's... The Palmolive Award. Whatever the fuck they call that. The French in their award shit. But... The film won Best Palm Dior. I don't know how strong it's going to be in the Oscars. I would say Best International Feature Film.

[00:32:00] I guess they'll win it. Because I haven't seen a lot of international films stand out this year. Oh, well, no. Actually, let me shut the fuck up. You do have La Bola Negra coming out. That's a film from The Hobbies. If you know Spanish films and if you know Spanish TV... The Hobbies are very well beloved in Spain. I personally... They kind of annoy me. But that's for other drag race reasons. But, you know, they're still fun to watch and watch them cry... Whenever a drag queen does something wrong.

[00:32:30] Again, these comments are going to be totally lost on straight boys. But The Hobbies and La Bola Negra... Are probably going to be strong contenders... For Best International Feature Film. And I think Fajorn has that category also locked in. I mean, I wish it was a double win. I don't know. I mean, I would actually... As much as The Hobbies annoy me... I actually would want them to get that award. They already got one in Cannes.

[00:32:59] So hopefully it translates to the Oscars. And back to Best Actress. You have Renate... Who is most definitely going to be nominated for Fajorn. Now, this is her what? Third nomination? Worst person? Sentimental? Value? And for Jorn. I think those are her previous two and her possibly third. What are the Oscars going to do about this? I don't know. Because now you also have Sandra Hewler.

[00:33:30] She's going to be nominated also this year again. I mean, I love Sandra. So she could be nominated for playing a chair. I don't care. That woman can act. But I'm pretty sure they're going to give it to, you know, baby girl Anne. So, the fact that you have Indy in this category... I think that it makes a category relatable. And I'll explain. You have Anne Hathaway, whom everybody loves.

[00:34:00] And whoever doesn't love her is, you know, fucking sexist. I don't care. But you have Anne Hathaway, who has been given performance after performance this year. This is the year of Anne Hathaway and Robert Patterson. I think because this is the year for Anne Hathaway playing so many different roles, the Academy will probably look at that and be like, yeah, here you go. You ran 2026. Every box office, your name was in it. And we still can't forget about Verite that's coming out in a few weeks.

[00:34:29] So, for Indy, this category is going to be hard. I'm not saying it's going to be impossible, but it's going to be hard. Now, my only critique, and it will always be this, a lot of her acting was hidden in shadows. That might be a little bit of a problem, but the fact that she has made this character, the character of 2026, we got to go back to 2025,

[00:34:59] where Amy Madigan made Aunt Gladys the character for that year. And it got her an award. Now, will this translate to Indy Navarrete an obsession? I don't know. I think so. I would want to say so. I mean, I'd be happy if she wins. I mean, she's a young Latina slash Australian. I don't know how the fuck that house lives. Very loud household.

[00:35:29] But you do have her charisma. And the fact that she basically broke record this year, it's already under her belt. She is going to work with Marvel. God, I hope that's not where her career ends. But you do have her basically making waves throughout 2026.

[00:35:53] So I do think if I had to say my money would be between her and Julianne Moore, and Anne Hathaway being the top three contenders, right now Julianne Moore is winning in most betting and predicting sites for the debut, which kind of pisses me off because I'm like, okay, you saw the movie. Can we just focus on the movies that have come out? Not a lot of people have seen the debut yet.

[00:36:20] So why can't we just hold that conversation for when the debut comes out? But it's Julianne Moore. She always gives a great performance. So I wouldn't hold it past them to have her nominated as well. So again, if I had to choose five actresses of this year that would be nominated, it would be Renata, Sandra Hewler, Indie Neberrett, Anne Hathaway, and Julianne Moore. I wish Zendaya was there, but I highly doubt it.

[00:36:47] Because again, hands under ass A24. Now let's go quickly with Best Director. Let's face it, they're going to give it to Nolan. They're going to give Best Director to Nolan. We all know this. Let's just wrap this shit up and walk home. Like, is Corey a chance here? No, I'm going to be honest. Hands down, no. When it comes to the creative perspective, he has more chances. When it comes to Best Director, I don't think he stands out for me. He did a great job. Don't get me wrong. Like, fuck no.

[00:37:16] He did a great job. He directed the shit out of this movie. But would I put my money on him? No, I would not. Will he get the same treatment that Sean Baker got? No, I don't think Curry Barker would have that Sean Baker effect on the Academy. This is his first film that people are getting to know him for.

[00:37:44] Sean already had a whole catalog of films, a whole catalog of indie films. Curry doesn't have that yet. Maybe in a few years, he can pull a Sean Baker and walk away with three Oscars and a Best Picture and a Best Actress. But I don't think it's going to be this year. I don't think it's going to be next year for Anything But Ghost. Maybe if Anything But Ghost has a better screenplay than Obsession,

[00:38:10] maybe that could push things a little bit more forward and more emotion for the Academy to be like, okay, he's a horror director, a horror writer, but we like this, you know? I don't know. I don't know. I, again, I have to say that Best Directing should go to, and this is without seeing the movie because the movie's coming out soon, I think it should go to the hobbies. Not going to lie. I feel like if the movie La Bola Negra is as good as everyone is saying,

[00:38:41] and that's the thing too, Penelope Cruz might be nominated twice, but she's also in La Bola Negra. I think the hobbies could walk away with Best Directing. In my opinion, I don't know. Nolan, I don't think deserves the Academy for this film. I don't know. I didn't, I don't want to hate on The Odyssey. I liked it. I'm going to buy like two different versions of it. But I don't think The Odyssey was as great directed. I don't know. I don't know. I have my doubts.

[00:39:10] I don't, I don't know. I just don't think we should give Nolan another Directing Award so fast. Or Best Picture so fast. I mean, Oppenheimer was like, what, three years ago? Two years ago? I don't know. But I would say the competition is going to be between the hobbies and Christopher Nolan. That is going to be the two strongest contenders for Best Director. I don't, I don't think.

[00:39:35] I mean, yeah, the $750,000 budget, making it a $500 million box office hit, that is not Best Directing. That is just great word of mouth. Now, Best Picture. Best Picture. We have The Odyssey. We have La Bola Negra. We have Wild Horse 9. We have Forged One. We have Project Hail Mary. We have Dune Part 3. We have The Debut. We have Digger. We have The Invite. And we still haven't seen half the movies that came out this year. That are coming out this year.

[00:40:03] Oh, they probably throw practical magic there too. I don't know. But those so far are the strongest contenders for Best Picture. Out of all of these nominees, obviously you have The Odyssey that are people going to be putting their money on. If La Bola Negra doesn't win Best International Film, and Ferdorin does, there's a strong chance that La Bola Negra, if it's nominated on both categories, takes Best Picture. Why? The Academy.

[00:40:33] There's a lot of international voters. The Odyssey is not necessarily a Best Picture for me. It was a great movie. I mean, I loved watching it at the Science Museum in London. It blew me away. But what blew me away was the female characters that were performing the shit out of those roles. You give them shitty line and they gave you gold. That is what made The Odyssey for me. So, directing. I didn't really love to direct in The Odyssey. I didn't like the screenplay.

[00:41:01] That is already two, two big categories that could affect Best Picture. But again, everybody got invited to the party. Everybody's going to get that promo package. And they have millions, if not billions of dollars to promote the shit out of this award season. Is Obsession going to make the top 10? Yeah. I'm pretty sure Obsession is going to be there. I'm pretty sure. Digger? Digger. I haven't seen Digger. Nobody has seen Digger. So, everybody's waiting to see what the fuck Digger is.

[00:41:29] But it's already a big talk for Best Picture. So, if The Digger is just as good as Obsession, and it's already up there in the top 10 list for Best Picture nominee, then definitely Obsession has to be there too. Because why not? Like, at this point, I'm going to wrap it up by saying that Obsession was a strong film during the summer. It is still talked about.

[00:41:58] But will all that word of mouth translate into awards? I don't know. Maybe they'll have great chances at the Golden Globe. We'll see how that works out. Maybe they'll have great chances at the Screen Actors Guild. Let's see how that turns out. But I don't know about the Academy Awards. I don't think you have the Sinners and the Anglades, you know, thrill.

[00:42:24] Even though you have a great word of mouth, I don't think it's translated yet into Academy Votes. So, my final scorecard, if I had to choose the categories that Obsession had to be nominated in, Actress, Sound, Score. I would throw just Screenplay for fun and Cinematography. I had Director there, but I had to take it off. After thinking of all the options that are coming out this year,

[00:42:52] I don't think Curry has a chance of being nominated. I'm just going to give them Screenplay and Takeaway Director. But I really want to take out both. So, in my honest opinion, those would be the categories that they should focus on. And if you want to change Screenplay for Best Supporting Actor, sure. But I will leave Screenplay because, again, you do have A24 with strong screenplays that they're not promoted. So, Obsession could actually promote the shit out of Best Original Screenplay.

[00:43:21] So, with that, let me know if you think they have a chance or not. I really want to see how many of you believe that Obsession can take Best Picture or any other award. I don't know. I've been watching the Academy Awards for God, I'm old. But I know how the Academy operates. And because I know that, I think they should stick to those categories, including Best Supporting Actor, for them to have a chance.

[00:43:50] Don't go for, oh, we have 11, 14 nominations. Fuck that. Just go with the wins. Don't try to go for, we are the most nominated horror. No, I think Sinner somebody has that. And that's fine. You don't want to go for the most nominated. You want to go for the wins. And if you want to go for the wins, you got to go for those categories and hit them hard. Again, same thing I say for A24. If you really want to be prestigious and have these wins under your belt, move the fuck up.

[00:44:20] Start campaigning. You're not doing that. You're not campaigning shit. So, I'm going to wrap it up with that. Let me know what you think.
